On Saturday, August 9th, Afro Funke’ Africa is returning to Levitt Los Angeles presented by KCRW & Fusicology for an epic night of electrifying music, vibrant culture, and unstoppable energy. It’s the cultural event of the summer, and it's free, family-friendly, and open to ALL! From 7 PM to 10 PM, this will be the place to be to groove to the pulsating rhythms of Africa with an unforgettable lineup of performances, DJ sets, and live music direct from the motherland!

What’s on deck?

​Blaq Pages, one of the reigning kings of the Afrobeats scene, Pages will take you on a musical journey with his signature high-energy set, playing the hottest hits and deep cuts that’ll keep you dancing all night long!

​Novena Carmel, an incredible musician herself and one of the dopest DJs in Los Angeles (who is also the host of Morning Becomes Eclectic on KCRW,) Novena will bring her world-class talent, blending Afrobeat, soul, and global sounds to light up the dance floor.

​Wazumbians are LIVE and coming straight from Ghana via NYC, bringing the authentic, soul-stirring sound of Ghanaian Highlife – a blend of jazz, swing, and traditional rhythms that will make your heart race and your feet move.

​Africa in America, led by the dynamic Kara Mack, will take you on a cultural journey with breathtaking West African drumming and dance that will leave you feeling the spirit of Africa in your soul.

And, hosting the magic will be none other than the legendary Rocky Dawuni, the 4x GRAMMY nominated Ghanaian musician, activist, and global ambassador of African music and culture. This man’s energy is infectious, and he’ll bring that signature warmth and passion to the stage. Rocky will be celebrating his brand new single & video “I Got a Song” featuring Cedella Marley, the first daughter of Bob Marley & Rita Marley which is receiving amazing response all over the world!

The Afro Funke' Legacy:

For over 20 years, Afro Funke’ has been Los Angeles’ premiere cultural movement dedicated to celebrating African music and art. Originally founded by Rocky Dawuni and Cary Sullivan alongside Jeremy Sole starting as a monthly dance party in 2003, Afro Funke’ quickly became a groundbreaking weekly event hub for the city's Afrobeat, world music, and international sounds scene bringing on second resident DJ Glenn Red. Over the years, it’s grown into one of LA’s most iconic cultural events, attracting music lovers, dancers, and creatives from all over the world. From intimate gatherings to epic celebrations, Afro Funke’ has continuously pushed boundaries and showcased the best in African and global music, arts, and culture. This year's event pays homage to the current cultural renaissance taking place in Ghana and across the continent of Africa.

Afro Funke' Africa is being produced by long-time Afro Funke' producer, talent buyer and photographer, Cary Sullivan, whose vision has always been to bring the joy, rhythm, and beauty of African culture to the heart of Los Angeles through music, fashion, art, photography, film, activism & much more.
